Something exciting is taking shape in San Francisco Cozoaltepec, Oaxaca.

What was recently an empty piece of land is steadily becoming a community center that will serve families, artisans, and community leaders for years to come. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters and the dedication of local workers and community members, construction continues to move forward.

At this stage, much of the work is happening below ground. Trenches have been excavated, foundations are being reinforced, and the first walls are beginning to rise. While these early phases may not look dramatic, they are among the most important. Every strong building begins with a strong foundation.

As we walk through the construction site, we can already begin to imagine what this space will become. These walls will one day surround a place where women gather to strengthen their embroidery cooperative, where families access traditional medicine, where community savings groups meet, and where educational programs help create new opportunities for future generations.

This project is about much more than construction. It is about investing in people.

One of the most inspiring aspects of this project is the level of community participation. Residents of San Francisco Cozoaltepec are not simply waiting for the center to be built—they are helping build it. Community members have donated the use of their trucks, equipment, and labor to move the project forward. Local contractors and workers are also playing a key role in the construction process.

This means that the funds donated to this project are creating an impact in more ways than one. Not only are they helping build a community center that will serve future generations, but they are also supporting local families and strengthening the local economy today. The center is being built by the community, for the community, and that shared investment is helping create a strong foundation for its long-term success.

This project is about much more than construction. It is about investing in people.

When completed, the center will provide:

  • • A dedicated workspace for women artisans to expand their embroidery cooperative and strengthen their economic independence.

    • A permanent location for traditional medicine projects that preserve local knowledge and provide affordable resources for families.

    • A meeting place for community savings groups and educational initiatives that support long-term community development.

    • A welcoming space where neighbors can gather, learn, organize, celebrate, and support one another.

The photos in this update capture more than blocks, steel, and concrete. They tell the story of a community working together to build something that will benefit generations to come. Every trench dug, every wall raised, and every column reinforced brings this vision closer to reality.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported this project through donations, prayers, encouragement, and partnership. Your generosity is helping create a place where people can gather, grow, and build a stronger future together.

We look forward to sharing the next stage of construction with you soon.

Thank you for helping build hope from the ground up.
